Debt securities are a type of securities in which a creditor provides assets to a borrower with the aim of receiving a repayment of the funds with the addition of interest.
Debt securities include:
- debentures, - bonds (corporate, municipal, government or supranational bonds), - treasury bills, - treasury notes, - money market instruments (promissory notes, certificates of deposit, bills of exchange or commercial papers), - credit card accounts, - and paper money issued by a bank or government.
