Blockbusting Definition
An illegal practice most often used by real estate agents and developers to try and get homeowners to sell their property for a low price. This typically involves using scare tactics, based on a protected group of individuals in order to get someone to sell their home or to list their house with an agent, at a lower than market value so a sale occurrs faster. Once the house has been sold an agent or developer subsequently will raise the price of the home and try and sell it to a person of color or other minority group. In most cases, blockbusting has been based on race, but it still is the same violation if based on some other protected group.
